Garcinia Cambogia is a tropical fruit commonly known as Malabar tamarind which is a popular weight-loss supplement. The benefits are derived from hydroxycitric acid, or HCA, which has boosted fat-burning and cut back appetite in studies. HCA is also being investigated for beneficial effects on blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Actual weight-loss studies have shown only a slight increase in weight loss but again, the research into GC is not extensive at this point.
A final verdict is still out on GC. It has been used in India and SE Asia in both cooking and as a medicinal for centuries. It’s most commonly used in curries and as a curing agent for fish. Some laboratory studies involving guinea pigs and rats have show some weight loss and fat loss.
There is some conflicting research about possible side effects to the liver.
